5 Tips for Nurturing Holiness
Feb 27, 2024Cherished sisters in Christ,
I want to share with you some thoughts that have been stirring in my heart after reflecting on the beautiful words shared by religious leader D. Todd Christofferson. He spoke of inviting people to meet the bridegroom and seek a personal relationship with our Savior. As I pondered on his words, the hymn "Take Time to Be Holy,” with words by William D. Longstaff, came to mind, and I felt compelled to dive deeper into its profound message.
1. Prioritizing Holiness in a Fast-Paced World
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it's all too easy to prioritize worldly pursuits over nurturing our spiritual well-being. However, as Christian women warriors of light, it's crucial that we intentionally carve out time to prioritize holiness. Let's heed the call to set aside moments of stillness and solitude, where we can commune with our Heavenly Father and deepen our relationship with Him.
2. Cultivating Intimacy with the Savior
Beyond rote prayers and superficial interactions, our journey to holiness entails cultivating a deep and intimate relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ. Just as the hymn implores us to "Take time to be Holy, speak oft with thy Lord. Abide with Him always and feed on His word." This verse beautifully encapsulates the importance of constant communion with our Savior. let's engage in heartfelt conversations with Jesus, pouring out our hearts to Him and listening attentively for His gentle whispers of guidance and love.
3. Being a Light unto Others
Furthermore, the hymn encourages us to "Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek." As daughters of God, we are called to be a light unto the world and extend love and compassion to those around us. By lifting others and serving with a pure heart, we align ourselves with His divine will and become vessels of His love and grace. Let's embrace the opportunity to extend love and compassion to those around us, making friends of God's children and uplifting the weary and downtrodden. In doing so, we not only fulfill our divine purpose but also align ourselves with His will and blessings.
4. Guidance Through Surrender
In our journey to holiness, it's crucial to remember that it's not about striving for perfection or adhering to a rigid set of rules. Instead, it's about allowing ourselves to be guided by the Spirit and surrendering our will to His. As the hymn beautifully expresses, "Take time to be holy, let Him be thy guide And run not before Him whatever betide.”
In our quest for holiness, it's essential to surrender our will to God's divine guidance. Instead of forging ahead with our own plans and agendas, let's allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, trusting in His timing and wisdom. By relinquishing control and placing our faith in Him, we open ourselves to a deeper understanding of His purpose for our lives.
5. Anchoring in Faith During Life's Journey
Amidst life's joys and sorrows, let's anchor our souls in unwavering faith and trust in the Lord. Just as the hymn reminds us to "Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul," may we find peace and solace in His steadfast love and faithfulness.
May we find solace in the comforting words of the hymn, "In joy or in sorrow still follow thy Lord, And looking to Jesus trust in, Trust in the Lord." Regardless of our circumstances, let us anchor our souls in the unwavering love and faithfulness of our Savior, knowing that He is always by our side.
In closing, my dear sisters, let's embrace the journey of nurturing holiness in our lives with open hearts and steadfast determination. As we prioritize communion with our Heavenly Father, cultivate intimacy with our Savior, and extend love and compassion to those around us, may we shine brightly as Christian women warriors of light, illuminating the world with His love and grace.
With love and blessings,
