Building on the Rock: Strength in Christ
Mar 01, 2023Hello, my fellow Hope-Full Warriors of Light!
Recently, I had the privilege of teaching a children's class at church about one of Jesus' powerful parables: the wise man and the foolish man who built their houses upon the rock and the sand (Matthew 7:24-27).
As I pondered how to convey this profound lesson, a creative idea struck me. I gathered bricks, sand, wooden blocks for the houses, Lego figures (for a touch of fun), and simulated "rain." The result was an unforgettable object lesson that vividly illustrated the importance of a strong foundation. See the short video of the object lesson here.
The sandy foundation crumbled before our eyes! Tiny Lego people floated in the water, and the house made of building blocks was washed away. It was a powerful illustration.
I proceeded to explain that life's challenges, like rain and floods, affect us all, regardless of whether we strive to follow God's word. However, those who build their lives upon the Rock of Jesus Christ have a much greater chance of weathering these storms unscathed.
Life presents us with various trials, some of which are exceptionally challenging. Don't you want to know how to navigate these rough waters with strength?
Here's the answer: Build your life upon the firm foundation of Jesus Christ! Connect with Him daily through prayer, scripture study, meditation, and moments of quiet reflection. Pour out your hopes and sorrows to Him, and He will strengthen you.
Resources for Building on the Rock
- Remember Christ's words as He taught about building on the rock: hearing and doing. While you may worry that you fall short too often, always remember that Jesus teaches the principles of faith and continual repentance. These two principles combined are the keys to building your life on the Rock. Watch my short video of this object lesson here.
- Becca, despite facing paralysis, didn't let her challenges hold her back. When kidney disease tested her faith, she formed a deeper connection with Christ. She shares three valuable tips that helped her keep her focus on the Rock of Jesus Christ during severe physical trials. Listen to or read her story here.
- Sometimes, hitting rock bottom is necessary to build your life upon the Rock. In this podcast episode, I explain Why Hitting Rock Bottom Might Be Good For You.
The good news is that whether you feel like you're on shaky ground or a solid foundation, Jesus can support you. His strength is unwavering and can carry you as you lean on Him.
I'm reminded of the powerful verses in Isaiah 40:29-31:
"He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. . .
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
So, continue your journey through life with confidence. God is with you, offering His wisdom. Keep building on His rock and remain Hope-Full!
Blessings,
Tamara
