Discovering Peace Amid Chaos: A Lesson from My Daughter
Mar 13, 2020My Dearest Sisters in Christ,
I want to share a story that touched my heart, a story that speaks of faith, love, and the comforting presence of God in times of turmoil. In the midst of the chaos that the world is facing, there is a sweet lesson my daughter taught me, one that I believe will resonate with your hearts as Christian Women Warriors of Light.
These past few days have been nothing short of crazy. The Coronavirus pandemic has brought about unprecedented challenges and disruptions. The stock market is in turmoil, major events have been canceled, travel is restricted, and even our beloved church services have been suspended. Can you believe it? Even Disneyland is temporarily closing its doors. It's as though the world around us is in a state of upheaval.
My own family felt the turmoil too. My two high schoolers, filled with anticipation, saw their choir tour to California canceled – a trip they had looked forward to all year. And I, well, I won't be chaperoning their adventure after all. It's been a rollercoaster of emotions, to say the least.
Amid all this craziness, we gathered as a family last night. We played games like Uno, Sorry, and KingDomino. It was a beautiful evening, made even more special by the presence of our visiting cousins, who have been with us throughout their Spring Break.
As I was preparing for bed, that my teenage daughter came to me with a heartwarming story. She shared a moment of prayer she had experienced earlier. In her own words, she said, "Mom, I just had a cool experience praying."
She went on to tell me how she poured out her concerns to God about the Coronavirus and all the changes happening around her. The world was shifting beneath her feet, and she admitted to feeling anxious. Yet, in the midst of her turmoil, she felt a remarkable sense of peace, a reassurance that God had everything under control.
Her words echoed the truth found in John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." It was a profound reminder that God truly has this situation in His hands. It isn't too big for Him.
The Power of Prayer, dear sisters, is a force to be reckoned with. In moments of anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, or fear, prayer becomes our refuge. In times like these, the words of a beloved hymn resound in my heart:
"Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day.
So, when life gets dark and dreary,
Don’t forget to pray."
(Hymnal, Did You Think to Pray?)
I want you to know, my dear friends, that the peace of God can rest upon each one of you during these challenging and uncertain times. As you lift your voices in prayer, you will feel His loving and comforting presence, just as my daughter and I did. Remember, God has got this, and He loves and cares for each of you, as was evident in the prayers of a sweet teenage girl.
With unwavering faith and love,
Tamara K. Anderson
